How to Create

A Framework for Creative Judgment and Intuition

Introduction

If you want to be, or if you are, a creative professional in any medium, the most fundamental thing you do is create. For most people, creating is just something you “do.” But for more complex projects such as scripting a film, writing a brochure, designing a home, or painting a great work of art, there are factually many different steps involved in the process of creation.

You don’t need to know all these steps in advance since this is intuitive stuff. For the most part, you’re going to do most of these steps anyway. BUT, if you really want to excel, it will behoove you to know all the broad strokes that go into the process of creation. By accounting for each step, you will improve the quality of your art.

And what is art, really, but the quality of communication. A painting is just paint on canvas; but as it ascends in quality, there is a threshold where it suddenly becomes “art.” That threshold is all about quality.
